AN00253 - Molecular structure of a self-assembled monolayer

The following measurements show images taken with easyScanSTM on 2-dimensional molecular crystals of dotriacontan and octadecanol molecular layers prepared on HOPG.

Picture 1: 13x13nm image; z-range 2nm

Instructions on the properties of such crystals and how to prepare them can be found in "J.P. Rabe, S. Buchholz,Commensurability and Mobility in Two-Dimensional Molecular Patterns on Graphite, Science 253 (1991) 424-427"

A guide for student's laboratory work can be found here: german version, english version
