Last week we had the extraordinary pleasure to celebrate Nanosurf's 25th anniversary with an in-person symposium in Basel, and open-door-day at our headquarters in Liestal. It was an exciting change to virtual meetings to have our guests in a room and be able to interact face to face again!
Since the times of the garage-based startup, Nanosurf has grown to one of the world's leading suppliers of AFM systems and technology to both the academic and industrial research community.
We saw the community of AFM experts and Nanosurf's friends discussing the origins of AFM, where the technology and its applications are currently, and where AFM technology might find itself in 2047.
My personal highlight was having one of the co-inventors of AFM on stage together with the founders of Nanosurf, talking about the history of Nanosurf and AFM, and discussing where the journey might take us in the next few decades.
Check out the image gallery and let us know which were your favorite moments.

Dominik Ziegler, CEO
News on DriveAFM: WaveMode
With the DriveAFM we introduced CleanDrive photothermal excitation to tip-scanning AFM. While CleanDrive facilitates dynamic mode imaging, especially in liquid environments, it offers many more possibilities. One of them is WaveMode.
Ed Nelson explains Wavemode
"WaveMode makes AFM stress free, straightforward, and predictable"
WaveMode is the latest addition to the CleanDrive-enabled operation modes. WaveMode is Nanosurf's off-resonance imaging mode that was developed in a very fruitful collaboration with Prof. Georg Fantner from the EPFL and Prof. Matthias Rosenthal from the ZHAW.

Key Features & Benefits
Fast off-resonance imaging
Stable operation in air and liquid
Gentle imaging - minimal lateral and vertical forces

Nanosurf to join Semicon Europa Exhibition
15-18 November 2022 | Munich, Germany
For the first time, Nanosurf will be exhibiting at SEMIcon EUROPA in Munich, one of the world's largest trade-shows for semiconductor and computer chip manufacturing related industries. We will be showing solutions for handling large, heavy and awkwardly-shaped samples, our instruments capable of measuring wafers, and of course the DriveAFM with its superior analysis power.
New developments to be announced at MRS Fall
At last year's MRS Fall Conferencre Nanosurf introduced WaveMode.
Visit us this year to see what our engineers have been working on for the past year - they have been busy!
DriveAFM demonstrations with your sample at the Nanosurf booth.
We are confident in the DriveAFM's capabilities, even on the exhibit floor of MRS. Bring your own sample and our booth team will demonstrate the Drive's capabilities to you, right there and then.
With the DriveAFM and its CleanDrive photothermal excitation, Prof. Massimo Vassalli and colleagues investigate morphology and nanomechnics of different biological systems - from protein networks to cells.
FlexAFM installed at the University of Padova
In August, Stefano Pergolini from Nanosurf's distribution partner Quantum Design Italy installed a FlexAFM at the Department of Physics and Astronomy (DFA) "Galileo Galilei".
The system features advanced electrical modes (current, KPFM, PFM), including scanning microwave microscopy (SMM).

This instrument will be principally used to investigate semiconductors materials (e.g., Ge-alloys, nitrides, 2D materials...) and determine active doping concentration profiles.
Stony Brook University
A new FlexAFM by Nanosurf, installed in August 2022 at the Low-Temperature Geochemistry Laboratory led by Prof. Qingyun Li in the Department of Geosciences at Stony Brook University, will soon be transferred inside their glovebox (anaerobic chamber).
Qingyun Li and Brooke Peritore with their FlexAFM
Qingyun Li and Brooke Peritore plan to use this powerful compact instrument in their research on microbial-induced CaCO3 precipitation through denitrification. Nanosurf is looking forward to seeing their great publications on this research that will affect the quality of both soil and runoff water.
University Sarajevo, Bosnia
Goetz Hoffmann joined Nanosurf this year in the role of Sales Manger for Easter Europe. He recently oversaw the installation of a CoreAFM at the University of Sarajevo. During his travels he also held a presentation about Nanosurf's newest innovations at the RICCE conference in Sinaia, Romania.
